Credit card processing FAQs
A few months ago, we put out a blog highlighting options in RezStream Cloud on credit card processing and we wanted to follow that post up with some recent FAQs and more detailed information when it comes to credit card payments on this platform.
Q: Does Shift4 keep the credit card information so I can take a deposit?
A: Yep! Shift4 holds the sensitive data on their PCI compliant servers and you have login credentials for the Dollars On The Net portal to receive that information to run your deposits or payments. With integrated processing, the PMS will receive the information it needs via tokenization and update accordingly. Or, you can use 4Word to access sensitive card data and put it in manually.
Q: Does Shift4 charge the deposits?
A: No, you will charge the deposits and final payments.
Q: What about guests that call to make their reservations? How do I get their payment info into the PMS?
A: When a guest calls or walks in, they’ll share their credit card info with you directly that you can either swipe or key into the system. The system turns all the information you put in into a token so it’s useless to hackers. Shift4 receives that token and stores it for you safely. When it’s time to run a payment, you’ll select that card from the guests’ profile and Shift4 will handle the rest. The only way you can see the full credit card number is by logging into your Dollars On The Net portal.
Q: If I’m using 4Word, how long do I have to access my guests’ information?
A: The system will display the credit card number for 10 seconds at a time (though you can request additional time on the screen), though you will only view the CVV code once.
