Enhanced Credit Card Processing and EMV Security Technology

Credit Card Processing Enhancements and EMV

We are pleased to share we have enhanced and streamlined credit card management for all clients processing credit card payments in the rezStream Cloud property management software. With this update, interactions with rezStream Cloud and swiping cards are faster and easier. Please refer to our KB article on the topic of Taking a Credit Card Payment to understand the improvements and how this affects you.

Additionally, we are in Beta testing with a few clients for a new EMV, or chip card, swiping device. This new swiping device provides end-to-end encryption of credit card data and will help protect you from potential chargeback scenarios. This new security technology will be available to all rezStream clients shortly and is a great benefit to using Shift4 as your credit card processor.

Some of the improvements you will notice include:

  • We have standardized on the term “Pre-Auth” rather than “Authorize” or “Authorization” as this is the most common term people use and think about when pre-authorizing a credit card for later payment.
  • For those of you with integrated credit card processing enabled, a new “Pre-Auth Card” button is now present anywhere you would normally see a “Make Payment” button. Now you can perform a Pre-Auth faster and with fewer clicks.
  • We’ve introduced letter codes for pre-authorizations so this information can be shared with your guest on letters when necessary.
  • After processing a credit card transaction, you will always be presented with a confirmation screen that allows you to print a receipt. In the past, you could always get to this screen, but it did not always come up immediately after processing the transaction and that often caused some extra clicks to get things done.
  • Finally, when swiping or adding a new card, the system will automatically check to see if we have that card on file (based on the card type and last 4 digits) and update it if it is already present. This allows you to encourage your guests to swipe their card and get the benefits of EMV and end-to-end encryption when they are present without creating duplicate cards on their record.

As noted above, the new EMV swiping device is currently in Beta and should be available within the next few weeks. When it is, we will post more information here on how to get one for yourself!

If you would like to learn more about the additional benefits of using Shift4 as your credit card processor, please reach out to sales@rezStream.com and we will get you in touch with them.

As always, we hope you enjoy this latest update, and thanks for using rezStream
